A Backpack Full of Feelings
Lucas peeked at his backpack, fingers tracing over the shiny rocket sticker. A swirl of excitement and worry bounced in his tummy—tomorrow was the first day at Starry Path School.
Emma tiptoed into Lucas’s room, her curly hair bouncing. She hugged her own bag, filled with colored pencils and a book about magical animals. 'Do you feel funny inside too?' she asked softly.
'A little,' Lucas admitted, his voice small. 'What if the other kids don’t like trains or science?'
Emma smiled, showing Lucas her drawing of a superhero cat. 'Maybe someone will think your rocket stories are the best! And maybe they’ll want to read with me.'
Lucas imagined a classroom full of new faces—some smiling, some nervous. He remembered how Emma always drew magical doors in her stories. 'Let’s pretend tomorrow is a door to a new adventure,' he whispered.

Stepping into Something New
The morning air tingled as Lucas and Emma walked up to the big, welcoming doors. Lucas’s hand felt a little sweaty in Emma’s, but he squeezed tighter.
'Look at all the new kids,' Emma murmured, eyes wide at the busy playground. She spotted a girl reading under a tree and a boy zooming a toy train along the bench.
'Should we say hi?' Lucas asked, his voice barely above a whisper. He watched the boy’s train click-clack along the wood. A tiny smile tugged at his lips.
Emma nodded. 'Let’s do it together. Remember, adventures start with one step.'
Brave as astronauts, Lucas and Emma walked across the playground, hearts pounding with hope and nervous wonder.
